In this age of fluidity and flux, we must continuously ask: What is truth? Can truth ever be truly objective? Or, does truth, like a wary bird, always return to the nest of the self?
The human mind is both creator and custodian of truth, filtering experience through perception, bias, and belief. Truth is less a fixed point and more a shimmering mirage, flickering and reforming in the light of who we are, where we stand, and how we feel. And so it is that the greatest enchantment of our information age is this truth – we have forgotten the presence of narrative itself.
We wield story as effortlessly as breathing, failing to recognize it as a tool, a brush in our hands that is painting our reality as we speak.
ISness and the Birth of Story
Beyond the frontier of language, beyond description and categorization, lies ISness – the raw, unfiltered presence of being. ISness is reality itself, beyond words, beyond concept, beyond measurement or analysis. It simply IS, requiring no story to substantiate its existence. A tree in the forest does not need to be named to exist or to flourish; it does not care how it has been categorized by height, species, or leaf shape. Its ISness is complete, whole, and untouched by the human tendency to narrate.
From the moment we observe, compare, or describe, we step into the vast sea of story. Science, often held as the bastion of objective truth, is not exempt from this. As soon as we list attributes, test hypotheses, or model realities, we are not revealing the truth of ISness – we are crafting a story. Every theory, every formula, is a narrative woven from observation, evaluation and interpretation.
Our error lies not in storytelling itself, but rather in forgetting that we are storytellers.
Religion, politics, and personal identity follow the same pattern. They are grand narratives, spinning coherence from the chaos of human experience. To master the story of story itself is to discern the boundary where ISness ends and narrative begins. It is to notice and even communicate the patterns in the forest, all the while remembering that the forest is more than the sum of stories told about it.

To master the game of story means to engage with narrative consciously, as an art rather than an unconscious habit. It is to hold a beginner’s mind – a playful reverence for the dance between the real and the narrated. This mastery does not seek to manipulate ISness but to co-create with it, blending the raw presence of existence with the artistry of human interpretation.
We must learn to play the game without forcing it, to tell stories without losing sight of their constructed nature. A Master of Story knows that to describe an emotion is to transform it, to name an experience is to frame it. Awareness of this act of creation allows us to move with greater integrity and creativity within the narratives we choose to live.

The Game of Story process of Serious Play is offered as a structured, affirming, and non-judgemental approach that meets you where you are. Your Storyteller’s Muse will begin by listening deeply, reflecting your story with warmth and empathy. Together, you will then explore recurring themes and you’ll be invited to reflect inwardly, always with curiosity, never with critique. You will then be gently encouraged to consider new ways of telling your tale – both to yourself and to the world.

Month-long Deep Dive $450
Engage in a powerful email exchange over four weeks, designed to overhaul your relationship with your story.
✓ The exchange is open ended, with no set number of exchanges for a set fee. This means it is self-paced.
✓ Your Storyteller’s Muse will be available for the duration of the engagement on a 48hr turnaround on all correspondence
